Besides spreading the spiritual message, the Protestant community also had properties such as schools, medical college, nurse training school, hospitals, dispensaries, an orphanage, school for the blind, a printing press, churches and a Christian community, which might have attracted interest and encouraged people to convert.
3.How did the churches’ actions positively identify it with Korean nationalism?
Protestant Churches continued the Catholic church’s practice of translating texts and writing hymns in han’gul. This has positively identified the Korean nationalism and that is how it has affected the Korean people to the church.

In Lectures on the Tao Teh Ching, Lao-Tzu says, that, "The mystery of the Mysterious is the gateway to all indescribable marvels". Does this quote have an equivalent to in Christianity? Are there other parts of the Tao Teh Ching that remind you of Christian ideals?
It doesn’t remind me of any Christian ideals. Both Christianity and Taoism and almost all the religions try to find the way. Also Christians believe that if you try get into danger and disobey the god god will go more and more farther apart from you. Also if you get in trouble once then you will fall into more and more trouble. I believe that mystery is the trouble and all the religions say that if you fall into mystery and trouble by doing something bad there will be more and more bad things.
See Passage 2, "Not honoring men....Not wanting rare things...Not paying attention..." How are does this help one understand how Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism found common ground and were not mutually exclusive belief systems?
These three lines help us understand the similarities between the three religions (Ideas) I believe which are Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. These three religions (ideas) all have in common that they are all salvation religion. Almost all of them require their people to become modest and thinking about themselves. They also have this idea that if they lack something it is better.
In Passage 2, what do you think is meant by the lines, "relaxing the mind, reinforcing the abdomen, gentling the will, strengthening the bones"?
I think these lines mean that by relaxing your body it will restrenghten you mind and also your body too. This is a typical Buddhist idea which is relax your body and think peacefully. It is now days called the yoga.
Consider the last three entries from D.C. Lau's Lao Tzu: Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu describes government. How is this ideal different from Confucius' ideal? What present day system of government are you reminded of when you read this section? Do you think this is a good system? Explain.
This entry is different from Confucius’ ideas because, Confucius’s idea stated that a government should always show integrity and intelligence. As the government behave in a good way the citizens will also be good under that rule. However, Lao Tzu’s ideas was that peace can only exist when there is absolutely no authority or even rule. Democracy was the government that I thought of and of course Democratic government is good. It might be a bias opinion because I am not at the bottom class and because my parents work hard we get that rights as a human.
Regarding the third treasure that Lao Tzu describes, what do you think is his message? Do you agree? What does this say about people who are ambitious?
I believe that if you just wait and just try to reach for your goals, you can always reach your goals. If you are full of ambitions you will never reach your goals and just be the person who gets nothing in the end.

What qualities of Confucius do you think might have made him a good teacher? Do you think he would still be considered a good teacher if he were alive today in our own society? Why or why not? (Note: What do you learn in particular about his teaching from passage 21?)
I believe one of his best features that made him a good teacher was because his special unique ideas of morals. His morals explained the basic moral rights and the respect that humans should have toward each other. He had rules of respect that you should give toward a specific person. I personally believe that he is a very good teacher if we consider because he has actually set up rules for certain respect you should give for certain people. With those respect rules us people especially Koreans developed some humbleness and their tighter bond between age gaps. I believe even in these days society he would be a good teacher because people are always so busy these days they forget to take care of their family and elders and with Confucius’s teachings people will learn again how to respect others and especially their family members.
What qualities do you think Confucius would look for in an educated person?
Confucius would look for the respect for others, and the ability to know their position in social class and maintaining humbleness is the most important factor that Confucius would look for in an educated person.

I believe that he saw his own role as a man who should change the world by peaceful teachings. His times were the worst times of the Zhou dynasty so he believed that by using his peaceful ideas he can possibly change the world. He also believed that he was not a very important character because he was so humble.

When I was 4 I first got baptized in a church at apgujeong in Korea. Because my whole family was christian and I didn’t know what was going on I believe they just baptized me and wanted me to believe I am a Christian. HOwever even with my parent’s effort to make me a christian, by the age of 12 I started to realize that I don’t trust in religion and transformed myself into an Atheist. Because I am an atheist I believe that it affects my identity by
-not believing in stuffs about Jesus Christ
not believing in hell or heaven.
